Epiphany Bible Study: The Parables

The most profound truths often reach us through strikingly simple stories about human life.  Jesus was a master storyteller—enthralling us across time, culture, and geography into engaging with a larger truth that seems always just beyond reach.  We will look at four important themes that run through some of our favorite parables:  Growth (e.g., the mustard seed); Seeking (e.g., the lost sheep); Judgment (e.g., the talents); and Decision (e.g., the great banquets).  While a book is available, all that is required is an open mind paired with a willingness to listen and share.  The book that you may wish to purchase is called Conversations with Scripture: The Parables, by William Brosend.  It is available on Amazon for $12.  Join us for story time as we explore the beauty and richness of the parables.  Please sign up on the Adult Spiritual Formation bulletin board.

The Book of Common Prayer

When we Episcopalians call ourselves “People of the Book,” the book we refer to is The Book of Common Prayer.  Every year at confirmation, we give the newly confirmed and received  this central book.  In our Sunday services here at St. Timothy’s, the prayers from the book are printed directly in the worship bulletins. Over time, some may have become less familiar with the book itself, which is a treasure that can enrich us on a daily basis. This course will offer an overview of the history of the prayer book and practical ways to use it in our daily prayers.  Whether you are new to the Episcopal Church or a life-long Episcopalian, you are welcome to join us as we learn about The Book of Common Prayer.  Please sign up on the Adult Spiritual Formation bulletin board.
