Giving to St. Timothy's
“Command those who are rich in this present world … to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” 1 Timothy 6:17-19
Every member of St. Timothy’s can provide valuable support to the parish through prayer and worship and by donating time and talent, but financial support is also needed. Parishioners can furnish that support in a variety of ways:
- during the Every Member Canvass in the fall, by pledging to contribute to the church a portion of the family’s annual income and honoring that pledge by payments against it in a lump sum or periodically throughout the year;
- by responding to special requests (e.g., contributing to the Easter and Christmas offerings or to periodic designated plate offerings);
- by remembering a special event or memorializing the death of a loved one or friend with contributions to the Memorial, Music or Endowment Fund;
- by helping to provide funds to support the ongoing music program or to pay for soloists or additional choir members for special occasions;
- by making it possible for youth to go on missions to El Hogar or to undertake an Appalachian Service Project by contributing to the cause or by purchasing groceries at Kroger’s with a gift card;
- by helping fund building additions (e.g., the Columbarium expansion) and improvements or major purchases of furnishings or equipment; and
- by jumping in with financial assistance as other needs arise.
The church welcomes contributions in any form – now, soon or at any time; they can be in the form of
- Cash
- Check
- Stock, preferably shares that are publicly traded
- Other property (e.g., real estate, life insurance policy, art, antiques, etc.) that has value and can be converted to cash or used by the church in carrying out its mission.
If your giving is in the form of cash, make sure that you include your name as the donor and whether the contribution is for general purposes or specifically for something else. If you contribute by check, indicate the payee as “St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church,” and, if the payment is for other than general purposes, note on the memo line where you wish the gift to be used. Be sure your name as maker is on the check, and, if you have an envelope number, note that next to your name. If the check is given for the Memorial Fund, be sure to indicate the name of the person for whom you are donating the memorial and the person(s) to be notified of your gift. If you are donating to the Music or Endowment Fund, be sure to specify any important information related to use of the moneys or persons to be notified in the event the payment is for a memorial or to honor an individual or event. If your gift is in the form of Stock, please click here for instructions on contributing stock. Should you wish to donate property other than cash or stock, call the Administrator for instructions. You can leave a legacy that provides for passing on a gift after a future event or following your death. For more information on Planned Giving, please click here.
It is important that parishioners provide ongoing support currently to fund the annual operating budget which covers compensation of staff; outreach; office expenses; utilities and maintenance; education programs for children, youth and adults; support of worship and the music program; etc. At various times throughout the year the church schedules special offerings to fund projects outside the regular operating budget. Parishioners from time to time make contributions to the Memorial, Music or Endowment Fund, sometimes in thanksgiving for a blessing, to honor someone or recognize an event, or to memorialize a deceased family member or friend.
The church keeps a record of all contributions and issues reports to each parishioner periodically throughout the year and at year end to provide information for tax purposes and to keep the parishioner informed as to his/her payments against a pledge. You may contact the Administrator at any time throughout the year to obtain a copy of the record of your giving.
